Objectives
The Benchmarks
The management team of
Servosteel have set the following Environmental
Objectives for the continual improvement
of the Environmental Management System
and reduction of the company’s negative
impacts on the environment.
The following objectives have been set
and the method of data capture (where appropriate)
listed:
Management Techniques
Introduction of Energy Management Policy.
(From 2006 objectives, which was not implemented)
Servosteel will endeavour to introduce
an Energy Management Policy and Framework,
to further reduce the company’s use
of energy. This will be achieved by the
structured application of management techniques
that enable the organisation to identify
and implement measures for reducing energy
consumption and costs by examining and
implementing:
- Energy Procurement
- Metering and Billing
- Performance Measurement
- Policy Development
- Energy Management Responsibility
- Energy surveying and auditing
- Training and education
- Capital project management.
Waste Minimisation
Servosteel will continue to carefully
monitor the quantity of waste which is
generated by maintaining the Waste Stream
Record. Servosteel will continue to investigate
possible recycling schemes to divert waste
from disposal, together with promotion
of waste generation reduction through education
and training. A target of the reduction
of waste disposed to landfill of 1% against
2006 total (tonnage waste disposed to landfill
versus tonnage processed by site) and a
reduction of hazardous waste disposed by
1% against 2006 total (tonnage waste disposed
to landfill versus tonnage processed by
site).
Water Use
Servosteel will continue to carefully
monitor the quantity of water used within
the Coil Pickling Process by maintaining
of the Water Usage Record. Servosteel will
investigate possible methods of reducing
the quantity of water consumed, through
recycling of water and process management,
together with promotion of efficient use
of water through education and training.
A target of the reduction of water used
within the process of 1% against 2006 total
(m3 used versus tonnage).
Energy
Servosteel will continue to carefully
monitor the quantity of energy which is
consumed by maintaining the Energy Consumption
Record. Servosteel will further investigate
areas of improvement within Energy Efficiency.
A target of the reduction of energy used
within the process of 1% against 2005 total
(kWh used versus tonnage) through installation
of the Maxsys Fuel+ Economiser system and
the implementation of Monitoring and Targeting
using the new automated metering system.
Accidents and their consequences
Servosteel proposes to create Emergency
Response Teams, in order to improve our
reaction to accidents, both major and minor,
by having a dedicated trained team.

The area in which our Dudley premises
are situated is a designated area of scientific
importance (Special Site of Scientific
Interest). It is an area of land which
is of special interest by reason of its
flora and fauna.
Being situated in this area requires Servosteel
to take special care not to distrupt their
part
of this
