Servosteel
Employment Policies
In the autumn of 2003, the new owners
of Servosteel inherited a workforce at
Stourbridge and Dudley following a difficult
period of Administration.
Progress since that date includes:
- The introduction of a performance related
pay scheme, matching hours clocked with
tonnage produced which has resulted in
an increase in earnings levels whilst
protecting the performance of the business.
- A detailed involvement in the planning
and execution of the restructuring plan
and the consolidation at Dudley.
- Implementation of a formal programme
to establish multi skilling under which
operators can develop the required skills
to work on any of the decoiling, slitting
or pickling lines. Sponsorship of individual
employees studying for a B Sc Environmental
Management Degree, a City and Guilds
Quality Assurance course and an Accountancy
qualification.
- Continuous internal training in 5 S’s,
OEE (a measurement of machine efficiency
levels) and TPM (a discipline for the
preplanning and implementation of preventative
maintenance) to identify further production
improvements under a Business Link supported
lean manufacturing initiative. (Servosteel
are to be used in Business Link publicity
as a benchmark project).
- The institution of competitive monthly
awards given to the factory area with
the best record of housekeeping.
- Involvement in the local community
by means of:
Providing work experience to pupils from local schools.
Supporting Russell Hall Hospital charity events with car parking and security
facilities.
Sponsorship of Stourbridge RFC, Dudley FC and a schoolboy county cricketer.
Support of the local Hospice by Christmas raffles.
Provision of free space for a local amateur theatre group.
Sponsorship of individual employees undertaking charity events.
Sponsorship of local boys' football team, 'The Glassboys'
